Institution research- Creative Agencies and distributors

While creating a website it is important to resarch how other campaigns and websites are created and what institutions are involved in the design, creation and launch of charities. Often, the large charities have their own companies so do not require the help of creative agencies, but companies such as Barnardos and NSPCC use agencies such as BHH and Saachi & Saachi to create effective promotional campaigns and websites.

Institution Research- Web Hosting

Web Hosting

Web hosting is a service which allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible through the internet. Websites are ‘hosted’ by companies who use the space in there server and store them in there.

A domain name is a unique address for a website, for example www.google.com. Domain names can be found using domain name registration companies, the companies locate available addresses and allow users to add various extensions such as .co.uk .com .org to their domain name.

Domain names provide easy access to a website, names should be short, memorable and clear to allow people to locate and remember your site easily.

A small or medium website will need between 10mb and 100mb, the more graphics, images and movies used in the site, the larger the size of the site.

After researching web hosting services I found the following companies which would be suitable for my charity campaign, the cheapest hosting I found was £5.33 a year for a small site, the most expensive £527 for a site with added features and space for up to 100mb. Godaddy.com was the provider I found most suitable

When looking for suitable domains I wanted an address that features the ‘gift of giving’ brand. The closest I found was www.giftofgivinguk.com . This is £5.61 for 2 years and the www.giftofgivinguk.com name is also available for the same price.
